The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is responsible for distributing the R350 Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to eligible individuals. The grant was introduced by the government to help those who have lost their jobs or income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

To check the status of your SRD grant application, you can visit the SASSA website and enter your ID number. You can also check the status by sending an SMS to 082 046 8553 with the word “STATUS” followed by your ID number. If your application has been approved, you will receive a notification with the payment date.

The payment schedule for the SRD grant is announced by SASSA each month. The payments are usually made from the 6th to the 16th of each month, depending on the last three digits of your ID number. For example, if the last three digits of your ID number are 001, you can expect to receive your payment on the 6th of the month.

It’s important to note that the SRD grant is not a permanent solution and is only available for a limited time. Recipients will need to reapply for the grant every month if they still require assistance.

  6. Then click “Submit

SASSA has also shared on social media that there is no set payment date for the special COVID-19 SRD grant. If your application has been approved, you will certainly receive payment for that month.

Social Relief of Distress Grant of R350 application status

  1. Application complete – This means the applicant has completed the reapplication process and will be verified each month for the SRD R350 grant. The client should check their verification and payment status each month on the website.
  2. Bank details pending – This means an application or reapplication was received, but no banking details or preferences were received. The client should submit their banking details via the website.
  3. Reapplication pending – This means no re-application has been received. The client should submit an application via the website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za
  4. Period (e.g. April) Pending – This means a re-application was successfully received, and verification of the application for the period is pending. The client should check back the status later in the month for an update.
  5. Period (e.g. April) Approved – This means the application was approved for the period. The client should check the pay day field for an indication of when they will receive their money. If no pay day value is provided, no payment has been processed as yet.
  6. Period (e.g. April) Declined – This means the application was declined for the period, and the reason is provided. The client can submit a request for reconsideration via the website if they feel that the reason is invalid.
  7. Canceled – This means the grant is cancelled. If the client wishes to reinstate the grant, they can do so on the website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reinstate.

The Sassa Payment Dates For May 2023 are:

  • Older Person’s Grants: Wednesday, 3 May 2023 (this includes any grants linked to these accounts)
  • Disability Grants: Thursday, 4 May 2023 (this includes any grants linked to these accounts)
  • Foster Care Grants: Friday, 5 May 2023
  • Care Dependency Grants: Friday, 5 May 2023
  • Child Support Grants: Friday, 5 May 2023

The grant amounts that SASSA beneficiaries in South Africa will receive are now as follows:

  • Old age grants – R2085 per person, per month
  • Disability grants – R2085 per month
  • Persons over the age of 75 and war veterans grant – R2105 per month
  • Foster care grant – R1125 per month
  • Care dependency grant – R1985 per month
  • Child support grant – R500 per month
