Former Miss South Africa and TV personality Melinda Bam and her husband, Adriaan Bergh are holidaying at Club Med Finolhu Villas in the Maldives.

Melinda has often said that the Maldives is her favourite destination – it’s where the pair spent their honeymoon (and where Melinda featured on Tropika Island of Treasure season 8). The Maldives is notorious for being a honeymooners and couples paradise, and for good reason – it’s breathtaking!
Nestled on the private, beautifully preserved island of Gasfinolhu in the heart of the Indian Ocean, Club Med’s ecologically conscious Maldives all-inclusive resort is surrounded by natural splendour at every turn. An interesting thing about the resort they’re staying at is that solar power has been incorporated in the resort – with solar panels designed to fit seamlessly into the resort. Rather than trying to hide the panels, the walkways have been constructed that allow the panels form the roof.
Only noticeably visible from the air, when a guest is walking from their private beach to the central area, the panels are barely visible. Producing over 1 megawatt of electricity each day, the resort is fully powered by renewable energy and 100% off the grid. Enough energy is harnessed by the sun so that surplus electricity is stored for use on overcast weather days. Coupled with a desalination plant that produces fresh water, the island is a model to be emulated for eco-resorts.
