Africa’s premium Hip Hop festival, Maftown Heights, embarks on a new era and heads home to Mahikeng for the first time, the birth place of the Motswako genre on which Maftown Heights is founded and celebrates. This once off historical edition will take place on Friday, 8 December 2017, at the Mmabatho Stadium in Mahikeng in collaboration with Mahika Mahikeng.

Mahika Mahikeng Cultural Music Festival is the flagship arts and culture event for the Province of Bokone Bophirima and will be hosted for the third time this year from 5 – 10 December 2017 in Mafikeng, the capital of the province. This special programme is spearheaded by the Premier of Bokone Bophirima Supra O.R. Mahumapelo.

“I’m extremely excited to announce that Maftown Heights is coming home. After 7 years in Johannesburg, creating awareness around the Motswako genre and celebrating it, we head home to where it all began. The importance of taking Maftown Heights to Mahikeng this year, where the number 8 signifies new beginnings, is unwavering. This is going to be the best Maftown Heights installment yet,” shares Khuli Chana, Maftown Heights co-founder.

From its humble beginnings in 2010 with an audience of just 900 people, to being Africa’s second largest annual Hip Hop festival seeing an attendance of over 10 000 people; Maftown Heights has become a must attend key annual festival on the South African events calendar that sees the forerunners of the Motswako genre on the line-up alongside Friends of Maftownwhich comprises of a make-up of the biggest South African and African acts of that year. The 8th annual Maftown Heights festival will take the same format and attendees can expect to see the biggest acts in the country on a world class stage in Mahikeng.
