The Close Up Season 5 launch party

Nicky Greenwall and her celeb friends ushered in the return of The Close Up with an intimate cocktail event at the Southern Sun in Hyde Park.

Hush presenter Refilwe Modiselle was the MC for the evening, and introduced Nicky Greenwall, who hosts and executive produces the show through her production house, Greenwall Productions.

Nicky emphasised that the 5th season of The Close Up, starting Thursday, 19 November at 6PM, will feature celebs who are considered to be controversial, but their stories will try to make people understand why they behaved the way they did in the past.

She praised those who made The Close Up Season 5 possible, including her photographer husband, Robin Fryer, who took the portraits of the celebs featured on the show. Nicky went on to reveal that they are also in the process of releasing a coffee table book which will feature some of the best portraits her husband took. The proceeds will be donated to the Neighbourhood Old Age Homes (NOAH) charity in Woodstock, Cape Town.

The big announcement for the night was the upcoming 6th season of The Close Up in which the likes of Tol Ass Mo, Lerato Kganyago, David Tlale, Nhlanhla Nciza, Proverb and more will reveal their first jobs before they were famous.

Guests were treated to a somewhat humorous teaser trailer of season 6 which is due to air on e.tv in 2016.

Some of the featured celebs who were present at the launch include DJ Sbu, Katlego Maboe, Siv Ngesi, Nonhle Thema and Jimmy Nevis.

Among those who were not present, but have been interviewed in the same season, include Maps Maponyane, iFani, Sade Gilliberti, DJ Mo Flava and SAGT judge Lalla Hirayama.
