The 12th annual South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) nominees were announced at the Inanda Country Club in Johannesburg. The event was hosted by a radio personality Masechaba Ndlovu.
According to Channel24, 79 awards will be handed out this year in the various categories covering everything from TV non-fiction, TV fiction, feature films, short films, to student films.
Only South African films and television shows that have been produced and publicly exhibited or broadcast between 1 August 2016 to 31 October 2017 were eligible to enter.
According the National Film and Video Foundation of South Africa (NFVF) CEO and Saftas chairperson, Zama Mkosi, they “went to great lengths to get judges from different demographics and skills sets” to comb through the entries.
“We are proud of the record number of 262 judges used along 2 judging phases,” Mkosi added.
