Annual Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo 2018 Review

On Saturday the 3rd of March, almost 2500 of the continent’s most stylish guests descended on the scenic Val De Vie Estate for the sold out 8th annual Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo Cape Town.

The exquisite Val de Vie Estateinthe Paarl-FranschhoekValley, was the perfect setting for guests embarking on their #ClicquotintheSunjourney in style. As one of only a few Veuve Clicquot polo events around the world, a variety of luxurious experiences and photo moments were the order of the day at the Cape Town event. While chilled Veuve Clicquotchampagnewas enjoyed in the hot Cape summer sun, E! Entertainment Africa host,Kat Sinivasan, chatted to VIP guests as they arrivedto a paparazzi of photographers and media on the ‘green’ carpet.As always, the event exceeded all expectations by creating the perfect setting for the continent’s movers and shakers to come together for a day of #ClicquotintheSun.

Canapés and a range of culinary delights, inspired by Cape Town Summer, were served throughout the afternoon while guests socialized and enjoyed the high-goal polo.

The talented local and international players captivated and entertained fans with the curtain raiser game where Team Jaeger-LeCoultre dominated with a 6.5 to 1 victory against Eva-last. Half a goal was given to Jaeger-LeCoultre on handicap. The main match featured top South African national players Tom de Bruin, Le Roux Hendriks and Jabulani Khanyile. With a burst of energy in the last minute, Team Vodacom took the main match against Team Veuve Clicquot with a final score of 10 to 9. On the day, Aki van Andel was named the Most Valuable Player and Milo, owned and played by Shaun Brokensha, recognised as the day’s Best Playing Pony.

Setting the tone for fashion at the 2018 Veuve ClicquotMasters Polo, was menswear designer Carducci and couture womenswear designer Jacques Lagrange, who wowed guests with a show stopping catwalk show on the polo field.

Guerlain, the Official BeautyPartner of the event, showcased the latest make-up trendsand complimented Jacques Lagrange’s flawless runway looks, while the Concierge Partner for the day,Tag Royale launched their ground-breaking concierge service app. Associate Partner to the event, SA Tourism supported the event along with Wesgro, to ensure the event attracted an international audience, positioning Cape Town alongside famous polo cities like New York, LA, Miami and Dubai.

Nomzamo Mbatha

The MC for the day, actress Nomzamo Mbatha, opened the event by welcoming the polo players in person. Polo commentator Mathew Pohl, kept the spectators glued to the fast-paced polo action.

The “Sport of Kings” has grown beyond expectation in South Africa, attracting discerning guests from near and far. The VIP guest list included some of the world and continent’s most well-knownpersonalities, such asTony award-winning actress, Anika Noni Rose, Sincerely Ward, of WAGS of Atlanta-fame, Angolan singer Perola Pearl, local media icon, Carol Bouwer, and local entertainment stars such as Jessica Nkosi, BoityThulo, and Katlego Maboe as well as former Miss World, Rolene Straussamong others.

Given the high level of style on display at this year’s event,The Best Dressed were chosen with difficulty by judges, Tarryn Oppeland Emilie Gambadefrom Marie Claire, Michael Ellingworth, Market Manager for Moët Hennessy South Africa,and event co-owner and CEO of VIVIDLUXURY, Anina Malherbe-Lan. The Best Dressed Female of the day was gorgeous modelAdeola Ariyo in striking black and white, the Best Dressed Couple were Pumi and NeilKörber in brights,while the Best Dressed Male award went toZola Msizi in a pale pink 3-piece suit. A difficult decision considering the incredible efforts made by all in their polo chic outfits.

After an action-packed day of polo,the day ended with a surprise moment where guests got to celebrate Veuve Clicquot’s 200 Year Anniversary of Rosé with a 6-tier pink and silver custom-designed cake. DJ Lloyd played out the night at the after party, as the sun set behind the exquisite Simonsberg Mountains, while guests joined a last toast to #ClicquotintheSun.
