Buhle’s first time

Every young woman wishes that her first time is special. She expects romance, the right setting and a partner who is gentle. Ntokozo had planned everything. Buhle’s first time was going to be perfect.

Teddy says no

After his out-of-the blue triumph in the debating contest, Teddy was appointed team captain. When Principal Dlamini presented him with his captain’s blazer, Teddy shrugged the jacket off his young shoulders and stormed out of the classroom, leaving behind a room full of open-mouthed classmates, like what was that!

Later, Teddy confided in Principal Dlamini; the reason for his foul mood was heartbreak. Having experienced heartbreak in his youth, Dlamini offered support. After the pep talk, Teddy accepted the debating team captaincy.

Ntokozo scores zero for emotional intelligence

Having won Buhle’s heart, the only thing that Ntokozo could speak of was his new girlfriend. He was so caught up in his own feelings that he completely forgot that Teddy was still healing from his heartbreak. After showing Teddy the sexy pictures sent to him by Buhle, he asked his friend to take photographs of him in a state of undress – all to impress the new bae. Even though Teddy had gracefully stepped aside so that Ntokozo could be with Teddy, he drew the line on shooting nudes; no thanks! Even though Ntokozo is more academically gifted, he scores zero for emotional intelligence.

Ntokozo breaks bro code

Bros before babes, every man respects the bro code. Until a special woman walks into his life. Tshiamo and Teddy were first to know of Buhle and Ntokozo’s relationship. For Ntokozo, there was still the tricky hurdle of disclosing his relationship to Langa, who is not just his friend but Buhle’s brother. Langa suspected that Teddy had a crush on Buhle which he described – in conversation with Ntokozo – as “disgusting” because friends don’t date each other’s sisters; bro code. As a result, Ntokozo decided against telling Langa about him and Buhle.

But how does anyone hide a whole relationship, especially when one is so madly in love? One, if not the other, is bound to blab, surely. And that is exactly what happened. Buhle was all butterflies and rose petals in the air as she told Tshiamo about her impure intentions with Ntokozo when big brother Langa walked in on them. The cat was out the bag and Langa was all claws and hisses.

At school, Langa confronted Ntokozo about his relationship with Buhle. After reminding Ntokozo about the bro code – bros before babes – Langa demanded that he chooses; it’s either him or Buhle. Eish, ndoda. Not the wisest thing to say to a boy with the emotional intelligence of a housefly. Langa followed his heart, or rather his genitals. He chose Buhle. Bro code for who!

Mohato loses the fear factor

On the streets Mohato is known as My Lord. But when you take away the gangster jewellery and throw a security guard uniform onto him, a thug becomes…. Just an ordinary guy nje. It is a condition of his parole that Mohato gets a real job, no hustling, no stealing cars. While a security job at Gomora Secondary might impress his parole officer, the streets were laughing at him. When the once scary Mohato discovered a couple of boys smoking cigarettes in the school toilet, he attempted to apprehend them. They laughed in his face and walked away. Parole officers just love parolees who step out of line. Knowing that his parole officer would have an orgasm if he were to assault the boys, Mohato couldn’t do anything to the little rascals. There was one person who still spoke to him with respect. It was the now friendless Langa. More on these two later.

Mohato makes a move on Zanele

Even though Thathi agreed to a partnership with Mohato, he only receives a thin slice of the cake from the car theft business. In fact, Sdumo – his own lacky – got more money than him when Thathi distributed brown envelopes to the gang members. When Mohato asked why, Thathi told him that he hadn’t put in any work; he was stuck in the security guard uniform while the gang was out stealing cars.

Frustrated, Mohato ordered Sdumo to kill Mazet, hoping that with her out of the way, Thathi’s business would collapse. Sdumo sent Lindokuhle on a wild goose chase, so that he could be alone with Mazet. But Lindokuhle came to Mazet’s rescue, just in time.

Thathi toughens up

After the failed murder attempt, Mazet and Lindokuhle dragged Sdumo into Mam Sonto’s office for a face to face with Thathi. They sat him down in a chair but Sdumo wasn’t intimidated.

“Your boss lady is weak” he said.

Thathi shot him in the leg. Or the crotch, all I know is it hurt like hell. Suddenly he wasn’t so tough. And, as for Thathi, she was now truly a crime boss. You’re not a crime boss until you’ve shot someone. Her first time to shoot someone not only earned respect with minions, Zanele and Lindokuhle, but it emboldened her for the fight that was around the corner.

Teddy sacrifices his own happiness

With their romance growing stronger, Ntokozo suggested “quality time” at home with Buhle. Zodwa had given Teddy R1000 so that he could record a demo for his soccer commentator ambition. But Teddy gave his money to Ntokozo so that he could book a spa day for his parents – a trick to have the house to himself and Buhle.

Even though he still had feelings for Buhle, Teddy played “number 5” – centre back – for Ntokozo. While Ntokozo prepared the love scene – music, rose petals and protection – poor Teddy, put his own feelings aside and walked Buhle to the place where she was to have her first time.

Teddy hung about in the living room, as lookout, while Ntokozo and Buhle undressed each other on the floor above. With most of her garments on the floor, Buhle reminded Ntokozo to be gentle – it was her first time. Ntokozo had planned their first time encounter so well; condom, petals, music.

What’s that thing they say about plans? Man plans, God laughs.

Mohato pokes a hornet’s nest

A woman might scream when she sees a spider. But when the same woman’s child is in danger, you will see the beast in her.

After shooting Sdumo, Thathi gave Mohato his last brown envelope and ended their partnership. Mohato responded by making a subtle threat on her son, Langa. He befriended the boy and walked him home from school. Thathi, who was chopping vegetables in the kitchen when Mohato entered with Langa, stabbed the knife into the cutting board. But Mohato was either too stupid or too arrogant to realize that this wasn’t the timid Thathi he once kidnapped.

Tit for Thathi

To show Mohato that his family was just as vulnerable as hers, Thathi baked a cake – but being a Sandtonite, she probably bought it – and took it to the Dlamini home, where Mohato lives. When she arrived, the Dlaminis were still getting their shoulders massaged at the spa, courtesy of Ntokozo, actually, courtesy of Teddy but let’s not get bogged down in details.

Nervously, Teddy, playing lookout for Ntokozo, allowed Thathi to come in and wait after she told him she had been invited to dinner. More trouble for Teddy the lookout man, Gladys and Melusi returned home earlier than expected. Thathi told them she was Mohato’s dinner date. Gladys, who always feared that Thathi could steal her man, was thrilled to see that her rival had set her eyes elsewhere. Mohato arrived, in his security guard gear, no longer scary to anyone – shem. He played along with Thathi’s story about a dinner date. Over dinner, Thathi sent out subtle threats, spoken in tones which only Mohato’s criminal ears could understand, you know, the way only dog’s hear high frequency noises. And there were more noises from upstairs…

Coitus interruptus for Buhle’s first time

Throughout dinner, Ntokozo had played loud music upstairs, either to set the romantic mood, or to muffle the anticipated cries of lovemaking. The music upstairs grew louder and Gladys excused herself from the dinner table to go and investigate. Teddy, playing centre back like Matthew Booth, attempted to intercept her, but she sat him down. She will need therapy to help her unsee what she found upstairs. Ntokozo and Buhle, just one thrust from their first time.

Till next week, my pen is capped
