How to Enjoy A Magical Easter Family Break at Sun City

Easter is almost upon us and as a traditional time for families to reconnect after a busy start to the year, why not enjoy a break-away at Sun International’s Sun City Resort in Rustenburg.

The ‘surf and safari’ resort, set in a lush green paradise surrounded by a craggy mountain backdrop, borders the Pilanesberg National Park and is just the place to gather the kids, parents and grandparents for a fun-filled holiday.

Easter activities for the kids include a photo opportunity with the Easter bunny and his helper, from Friday April 15 to Monday April 18, 1pm – 9pm at Sun Central. On Saturday April 16, there will be three Easter egg hunts on the Cabanas lawns.

The resort offers a wide variety of accommodation offerings; from the three-star Cabanas Hotel, the four-star Sun City hotel and casino, the five-star Cascades and The Palace of the Lost City to the self-catering Sun Vacation Club, there is something to suit all tastes and requirements.

There is plenty to see and do for all ages, from walks through the magnificent gardens, which have been afforded botanical garden status, to getting ‘lost’ in The Maze of the Lost City, one of the largest permanent mazes in the southern hemisphere and an ice-cold craft beer or craft gin awaits you at the other end.

Adventurous families can take a Segway Tour around the resort or brave the 2km long zip slide, which stands 280m above the ground and hits speeds up to 120km per hour. Mankwe Game trackers offer a range of outdoor activities including quad biking and game drives. The resort is also home to two of South Africa’s top rated 18-hole golf courses. Parents who want to enjoy adult activities can drop their children off to have fun under supervision at Kamp Kwena, which offers indoor and outdoor activities.

Water enthusiasts can take advantage of the year-round sun and enjoy the two-metre-high swells at Valley of Waves where a mechanically generated wave pool and a range of exciting water slides offer endless fun and excitement. At the man-made Waterworld lake, enjoy parasailing, jet-skiing, wake boarding, water-skiing and more, or for the more sedentary, a sundowner cruise.

A visit to the neighbouring Pilanesberg National Park is a must. The malaria-free park offers a super seven sighting experience. In addition to the big five of lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo, you can also keep an eye out for cheetah and wild dogs in their natural habitat. Book an experienced guide for a safari or take a self-drive. For the ultimate experience, try the hot-air balloon flight at dawn for breath-taking views of the park.

Mankwe GAMETRACKERS drive
Last month, lucky Sun City visitors saw not one but two kills by same pride of lions while on a Mankwe GAMETRACKERS drive – something truly spectacular.

The resort has more than 30 eateries to choose from – wherever your day’s journey takes you. Look out for the legendary Hard Rock Café and Legends at the Sun City hotel, Maltos at the Cascades hotel with its beautiful vistas over the pool, The Brew Monkey at the Valley of Waves, as well as a selection of your favourite take-away and sit-down restaurants at Sun Central.

Sun City was recently named Africa’s Leading Family Resort in the 2021 World Travel Awards, proving that South Africans have the best of the best right on their local doorstep. The resort is filling up fast, so secure your booking today, via the website and the online booking engine.
