Hustle: New drama series to air on eKasi+

TX: THURSDAY, 11 FEBRUARY at 9PM

This February OpenView HD viewers can look forward to a breathtaking new drama series, Hustle. The drama series is based on the premise of a volatile music industry and covers all aspects relating to the music, talent and the various “twist and turns” in a cut throat music business.

Hustle will premiere on Thursday, 11 February at 9PM on eKasi+ channel 104 on OpenView HD.

Hustle follows the story of a has-been music diva who has lost her mojo after a long and successful career. Kitt is a has-been, who sang hit records, had a huge fan base, and performed in big concerts in the 80s, but her career has crashed. She started off like many great artists in a singing group called The Sparrows with her sister and best friend, but her extraordinary voice and hot ambition made sure she was picked from the trio and nurtured to superstardom. She rose to the heights of the South African music industry.

Kitt is now trying to make a come-back. The drama captures her rough journey back to the top of the charts. She constantly has to save herself from being publicly burned and humiliated in her attempt to get back to stardom.

“Hustle will keep our viewers captivated. It is an in-depth depiction of the vibrant yet tough local music industry that demands extraordinary staying power. This will prove to be an inspiring story for many South Africans.” Says Managing Director for e.tv channels, Monde Twala

The leading role of Kitt will be portrayed by award winning actress Brenda Ngxoli. Brenda will act alongside talented actors such as Masello Montana (Neo), Dineo Ranaka (Kedibone), Zolisa Xaluva Xolile Sithole (“Bra X”) and Angela Sithole (Angel).

“This series presents the pursuit of dreams and how they can sometimes uplift and destroy us. We have chosen a cast that defines our characters. These are all actors who bring talent, passion and a sense of the drama of life. They know how to bring it to the screen and that is what we hope the audience will love – the visceral and immediate energy – the hope and disappointment which captures the pursuit of dreams,” says Fireworx Producer Bridget Pickering.

Hustle is expected to create dialogue within the South African music industry. Many will be able to relate to the struggle of breaking out as a musician or even the destruction and challenges that come with fame. The drama series is produced by Fireworx who previously produced Mzansi Love, which aired on e.tv in 2014.

The series will be exclusive to eKasi+ but will air later in 2016 on e.tv.

Hustle starts on Thursday,11 February 2016 at 9PM. The series will be exclusive only on OpenView HD, eKasi+ Channel 104 but will air on e.tv later in the year.
