JT Medupe To Play Jacob Zuma In ‘Khwezi’

Former Generations: The Legacy actor JT Medupe is set to play the role of Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma on stage adaptation of Redi Tlhabi’s ‘Khwezi’.

This was announced by the South African State Theatre in association with Village Gossip Productions. The play is written and directed by multi-award-winning playwright Napo Masheane, adapted from “Khwezi … The remarkable story of Fezekile Ntsukela Kuzwayo” by Redi Tlhabi.

Professional stage and screen actor JT Medupe is a graduate of Tshwane University of Technology Performing Arts faculty and has been in the industry ever since obtaining his qualification in 2009.

His theatre experience includes Peter Pan, Big, Love, Festen, Malibongwe Igama la Makhosikazi, and Hansel and Gretel to name but a few.

JT’s versatility helped make it possible for him to be cast on various Barnyard shows, industrial theatre and corporate theatre shows and children’s theatre productions such as the Naledi Award-winning Under the Baobab Tree and the Astounding Antics of Anthony Ant.

He then branched into TV with his debut as Tebogo on Sokhulu and Partners, a drama series on SABC1. His other TV credits include YOTV, Isidingo, Rockville and Generations – The Legacy where he portrayed the mischievous Jonathan Motene. That was followed by three feature films; Second Chance, Phindile’s Heart and Descent. He is back again on the big stage after a successful run of King Kong the Musical where he played as Leadpipe.

The eagerly anticipated new musical play “Khwezi … Say My Name” will be on stage from 25 July till 12 August. Both 25 and 26 July days are reserved for previews ahead of an Opening Night (or Media Night) on the 27th.
