Legendary Jazz musician Oliver Mtukudzi has passed away. According to multiple sources in Zimbabwe, the musician died on Wednesday.

Zimbabwean publication Masvingo Mirror, sent an initial tweet saying: “Music icon Oliver Mtukudzi has passed on. The Mirror has it on good authority that he died 2hrs ago in the ICU at the Avenues Clinic in Harare (sic).”

Mtukudzi’s record label Gallo Records also confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon but said there were no details available

Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi was a Zimbabwean musician, businessman, philanthropist, human rights activist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Southern Africa Region. Tuku was considered to have been Zimbabwe’s most renowned and internationally recognized cultural icon of all time.

According to pulse.com.gh, Mtukudzi failed to attend ZBC Coca-Cola winner’s prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday due to illness.

No statement has been released yet by the family and the cause of the 66-year-old musician’s death is not yet known.
