NSFAS Applications 2023 Are Now Open

NSFAS applications 2023 are now open, the Department of Higher Education confirmed the applications opened as of 28th September 2022.

Higher Education Minister, Dr Blade Nzimande has announced that applications for 2023 National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding are officially open.

The system was effective from Wednesday, 28 September 2022, and close on 21st January 2023.

NSFAS applications are for students who come from poor and working-class backgrounds and wish to further their studies at University or any public technical and vocational education and training college (TVET).

Minister Blade Nzimande said that NSFAS application process will be done online via the myNSFAS student portal.

New applicants will need a copy of their IDs or birth certificates to register and create a profile on the myNSFAS portal, while existing users would need to log in using their registered myNSFAS details.

The application system will require a prospective students to submit their supporting documents, including:

  • a copy of their ID;
  • a parent or guardian’s proof of income; and
  • a copy of the parent or guardian’s ID.

The Department of Higher Education also advised the following criteria in order to be eligible for selection:

  • You are SASSA grant recipients or
  • Your combined household income is not more than R350 000 per year or
  • If you are a person living with a disability, your combined household income should not be more than R600 000 per year or
  • If you are a student who begun their university studies before 2018 and their household income is not more than R122 000 per year.
