Award winning South African sports journalist and television and radio personality, Robert Marawa, attended the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards last night in Monaco by special invitation from the Laureus and interviewed some of the world’s top athletes.

The Laureus World Sports Awards is an annual award ceremony honouring remarkable individuals from the world of sports along with the greatest sporting achievements throughout the year.

Robert Marawa attended the 18th annual Laureus World Sports Awards last night in Monaco and interviewed the likes of Usain Bolt, the Laureus Sportsman of the Year winner; Simone Biles, the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year, who at just 19 years of age is already the greatest American gymnast of all time; Claudio Ranieri, Leicester City Coach and winner of the Laureus Spirit in Sports Award; and Ruud Gullit, Gary Player, Clarence Seedorf and Boris Becker just to name a few.

Respected across the global sporting fraternity, Robert Marawa’s invitation to attend the high-status Laureus World Sports Awards speaks volumes to the caliber of his sports-casting. The Laureus is just one of many sporting organisations that have extended an invitation to Robert Marawa over the years to attend and cover their events.

Established in 1999 with their first awards ceremony taking place in 2000, the first Patron of Laureus was Nelson Mandela.  At the inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards in 2000, former late President Mandela said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can awaken hope where there was previously only despair.” This has become the philosophy of Laureus and the driving force behind its work.
