SA entertainment website Just Curious set to host awards

Just Curious, a South African entertainment and celebrity news website, has announced that it will be hosting a new awards ceremony to South Africa’s entertainment industry.

The website, Just Curious, was founded in 2009 by a South African celebrity blogger, columnist and television presenter, Lelo Boyana.

Lelo Boyana, who is also known as Brown Shuga to her Internet readers, is best known for hosting the insert “TV With Lelo” on the SABC1 gossip show The Real Goboza, from 2007-2008.

Speaking to EWN about the awards, the JustCurious founder said the awards will bring something fresh to the entertainment industry.

“The awards are really just a creative way to reflect at the year we had in entertainment, the scandals, the catfights and all the fun we had.”

Boyana said she has put an interesting spin on the categories.

“We are not duplicating what is already out there, we came up with interesting categories that are sure to get people talking once the nominees are announced.”

Categories include Scandal of the Year, Catfight of the Year, Best Celebrity News Coverage in 2013, Worst Kept Secret, Best Celebrity on Social Media, That Was Not Worth a Headline Award and Best Red Carpet Look of 2013.

Lelo Boyana said South African celebrity culture is growing very quickly and expects the industry to continue growing, specifically due to social media.

“South Africa has become this celebrity obsessed nation where we want to know what our stars are doing and who they are dating and that’s why tabloids and gossip blogs will be around for a long time to come. Even our mothers know what’s going on with celebrities, it’s crazy but I love it!”

Winners will be announced at an event in Johannesburg on 8 November.
