SAFTAs nominations announced

The nominations for the 13th annual South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAs) were announced on Friday at Rosebank Mall.

The awards are meant to honour creative excellence in the local film and television industry.

The River bagged 13 nominations including for ‘Best Telenovela’ and ‘Best Actress Telenovela’ for Sindi Dlathu.

Media personality Thando Thabethe received two nods for Best Presenter and another for her talk show Thando Bares All.

While Nomzamo Mbatha, Kgomostho Christopher and Dawn Thandeka King are contending for the ‘Best Actress TV soapie’ crown.

Hlomla Dandala, Siya Radebe & Presley Chweneyagae have been nominated for ‘Best Actor Telenovela.’

Soapie of the year nomination went to Isibaya, Uzalo and Rhythm City, while best telenovela nominations went to The River, Broken Vows and Ring of Lies.

The public vote categories have also returned, giving audiences the opportunity to get involved with the Saftas too. The two categories are Best Presenter and Most popular TV Soap/Telenovela.
