What Is SASSA?
SASSA stands for the South African Social Security Agency. The Social Relief of Distress Grant
The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is administered in terms of app-section 32 of the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004) and is implemented with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance.

SASSA Status Check 2023
You must perform the SASSA Status Check July 2023 procedure to find out about your Sassa SRD R350 status. When your Sassa SRD status check has been approved, you will see ‘Approved’ next to Sassa Status Check. If you are you are not approved, you will either see Sassa status pending, Sassa status check failed or Sassa Status check declined.
If you receive sassa status pending, means that your SASSA SRD grant application has successfully been received by SASSA but there are a few checks remaining, which are, Verification and Requirement of Bank Details by SASSA.
SASSA SRD Payment For R350 Date
The SASSA SRD payment of R350 is approved by SASSA and is provided to South Africans affected by COVID-19. The SRD Payment dates for July 2023 are:
- Older Persons/ Pensioners Grant: Tuesday, 4 July 2023.
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 July 2023.
- All other Grants: Thursday, 6 July 2023.
SASSA Status Check Process
To check your Sassa status, you must have your ID number and cellphone number used to register for the grant with you. Also have a device that you will use to check your status. Once you have the above requirements, you may proceed to the next step. Make sure your device has internet connection.
You need to follow the below steps:
- Step 1: Go to your internet browse such as Google Chrome or Firefox
- Step 2: You need to visit the Sassa status check link here https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
- Step 3: You will be asked to enter your ID number and the cellphone number used to submit the application
- Step 4: Once you’ve entered the details, click ‘Submit’
- Step 5: In this step, you will be able to see your grant status

SASSA Payment Collection Method
If you have already reapplied for your Sassa SRD grant, you can still select the option to collect your grant from any Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers or USave. Log on to srd.sassa.gov.za and respond to the security SMS you receive on your phone. You can then include merchants in your application and submit the updated application.
All R350 beneficiaries are urged to use their cellphone numbers to withdraw their grants at supermarkets. If you did not use your own cellphone number, you can also change it on the Sassa SRD website. You can also reset card pins at the cash pay points. The card can then be used at merchants at ATMs.
SASSA beneficiaries who receive old age, disability or child grants can still collect their grants from any Post Office branch.

A ‘Bank details pending’ R350 grant application status means that your application, or reapplication, has been received. SASSA Status Pending means your application has not yet been approved, your details still need to be screened and verified first.
