Who Qualifies for SRD Grant?

To qualify for the SRD grant, you must be above the age of 18 years old and below the age of 60 years old. If you are younger than 18 you parent or guardian may apply for a grant in order to look after you. If you are 60 years old you qualify for the SASSA older persons grant. You must not be younger than 60 years old.

If your application was declined for any period and you had zero income in the preceding month, you may submit an application for reconsideration by visiting srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reconsideration.

About the special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant

The President declared a National State of Disaster as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic. In this regard he introduced a special Covid 19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) of R350 per month for 6 months to be paid to individuals who are currently unemployed, do not receive any form of income, social grant or UIF payment etc.

This Social Relief of Distress Programme was confirmed in the Regulations made under Section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002): Measures to prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19, as amended.
