Here’s how to activate UP Portal profile:
- Step 1: Go to UP’s website at www.up.ac.za
- Step 2: Click on the link titled “My UP Login”. You will be taken to the UP Portal Login page. If you are a new user on the UP Portal, click on the “New user” button.
- Step 3: (As a first-time user of the UP Portal) The button labelled “New user” which will take you to
this function - Step 4: Enter your Username which would have been communicated to you and SA National ID (or
passport) and click “Proceed” - Step 5: You are then presented with the criteria that your proposed password must meet. Capture your proposed password (twice) and click “Proceed”.
- Step 6: Once your Password has been created, you will be requested to set up the answers to at
least three “Challenge Questions” that you select.

Please note that you must be registered as a student to get full access to clickUP.
- The web address of c lickUP (http://clickup.up.ac.za/) or UP Portal (http://www1.up.ac.za)
- Your username: u, followed by your student number on your student card (for example, u12345678)
- Your password: The first time you log in, you will use your ID number / Passport number as a password, after you set your UP Portal password, you will use that.
- If you are logging in for the first time, click on the New users link. The system will guide you through the steps for creating security questions and to set up your password. Read the steps and information (on passwords and browsers) carefully. After you created your own password through the “new user” link, you will use your own password for future logins. If you forgot your password, use the ‘Lost (forgotten) password’ link to create a new one.
How to Reset UP Portal Password?
Instructions for current users of the UP Portal:
- Click on the “Change Password” link on the UP Portal login page to change your current password.
- After changing your password, you will be prompted to select three challenge questions from a list and to provide their answers.
