What To Do If Your Sassa Status Check Failed

What to do if your Sassa Status Check failed? The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) distributes social grants in South Africa every month. SASSA is an entity of the Department of Social Development responsible for administering social assistance. The agency expects more people in South Africa to apply for the Social Relief of Distress Grant The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) after the legislation under which the grant is provided was adjusted. However, the changes may lead to delays in receiving the decisions on whether or not you will receive a R350 grant.

The Department of Social Development (DSD) amended the Social Assistance Act in an effort to increase the amount of people benefiting from the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) welcomed the changes, as the new regulations could increase the amount of people benefiting from the grant to around 10 million beneficiaries. Following the implementation of the new regulations, including the checking of applicants’ bank accounts against the income threshold of R350, the Department was concerned about the low number of approvals.

Before Sassa R350 Grant beneficiaries can receive the SRD grant, they need to the Sassa SRD grant application on the Sassa SRD grant website here srd.sassa.gov.za. Once their SRD grant application is considered by South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), applicants will be able to check their Sassa SRD grant status.

According to reports, some Sassa grant applicants are unable to check their Sassa SRD grant status on the SRD grant website srd.sassa.gov.za.

Sassa explained that they would like to reiterate that only those who meet the criteria and have no financial support from any source should apply for this grant. This comes after they received millions of applications of which some grant applicants will need to wait longer for a decision from Sassa.

“Remember the application system is now processing millions of applications at once. You will be able to view your current status soon.” – Sassa said

By lodging an application, applicants give consent for SASSA to validate the financial and other information against data sources held by government and financial institutions – including SA Revenue Services and banks. This process takes time.

However, knowing your Sassa SRD grant status is very crucial as it tells you whether you quality to receive the SRD grant or not. If you are declined, Sassa will also provide a reason as to why your grant application was declined.

If your Sassa R350 grant application is rejected, you can appeal Sassa’s decision. Please note that Sassa does no longer deal with R350 grant appeals. Applicants must now submit SRD grant appeals to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).
