Distruction Boyz head to Spain

Distruction Boyz, are set to take their thumping dance sounds to Barcelona, Spain.

The Distruction Boyz duo, which consists of Thobani “Que” Mgobhozi and Zipho “GoldMax” Mthembu, have been invited to perform at Barcelona’s Sonar Electronic Music Festival in June.

This comes after a successful 2017 which saw the duo win the SABC Summer Song with their hit Omunye, which features local artists Dladla Mshunqisi and Benny Maverick.

Reports found on IOL state that the duo themed the event as “It was all a dream” at a celebratory party held at The Joint at Durban’s North Beach this week.

“We are going to Spain for the Sonar Music Festival. It’s one of the biggest festivals in the world,” said Mgobhozi. “We are going to showcase our style of music which is gqom, we are going to be showing people from other countries what gqom music is,” he said.

Under their record label, Distruction Records, which the duo launched last year with their debut album Gqom Is The Future, they have signed two new artists – K.Dots and Mbuso blackQrythm who they unveiled at the party.

“Our parents taught us that the money we make must be invested. We want to grow not just as Distruction Boyz but as businessmen,” said Mthembu.

With declining CD sales plaguing the music industry worldwide, the duo managed to sell gold status last year. And to widen their profit net, the pair have ventured into the advertising space, shooting an advert with KFC. “It’s nice to see ourselves on TV once again and be associated with such a big brand as KFC.”
