TV personality Pearl Thusi looks flawless on the February cover of GQ

Local television personality Pearl Thusi looks flawless in black on the February cover of GQ Magazine. As the only woman to host GQ’s Best Dressed Men of the Year awards twice in 2013 and 2017, Pearl Thusi has always been a GQ favourite.

The magazine said that one of the things they love about her is that she’s never been afraid to speak her mind. They asked her what being on the cover meant to her.

“I think that women do or can enjoy that kind of attention, but we obviously don’t want to be disregarded or misrepresented because of it. There’s a clear line between being a sex object and a sex symbol. I think women enjoy being on men’s magazine covers because they want to be understood. Being a sex symbol is empowering and it gives you command of your space. Women want to be appealing, but contrary to popular belief that has very little to do with men. It’s really about self-worth and personal power.

Men’s magazines often get it wrong. We have to make sure that we are being celebrated, not only because we are beautiful and desirable, but more importantly because we are intelligent, successful, empowered and fiercely motivated. If the project becomes collaborative it becomes empowering, too, which is why it’s important for a cover woman to have agency. This approach is certainly more intimate and offers a truer reflection of who that person is and, by extension, what the magazine is like.” – Pearl told GQ Magazine.
