Ms Cosmo is arguably SA’s hottest female Hip-Hop DJ and VJ talent at present. As the first and only female DJ on Channel O Bassment, Ms Cosmo has quickly made her mark on the continent and gained respect in the Hip-Hop community at large.

Her knowledge of and interest in music, makes Ms Cosmo the ideal choice when looking for a quality mix or deejaying skills. Ms Cosmo was previously a weekly live mix DJ for YFM’s #YTKO feature. She is currently a 5FM radio presenter and her weekly Hip Hop show, ‘The Stir Up’ has gained considerable popularity amongst Hip Hop lovers throughout the country.

Ms Cosmo also provides a weekly mix on Euphonik’s ‘Ultimix Weekend Edition’ show on 5FM in addition to her weekly video mix for Channel O’s ‘Bassment’ program.

Her Background

Born as Nonqaba Nozuko Rwaxa to a Xhosa father and Zulu mother, Ms Cosmo lived the first six years of her life in Diepkloof, Soweto, before her family moved to the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

As a young girl, Ms Cosmo wanted to be a singer, but she diligently went through the schooling system and later graduated with a BCom Finance and Investment Management degree from the University of Johannesburg. Ms Cosmo went on to work for one of the big 4 banks as a Commercial Property Finance consultant. The Joburg pop culture drew Ms Cosmo to the love of music and DJ’ing.

DJ Zinhle’s and DJ ZanD’s Guidance

Through encouragement from her friends, and a golden ear for music, Ms Cosmo decided to take her music interest further and enrolled at FUSE Academy, a DJ’ing school founded by SA’s 1st lady of house music, DJ Zinhle. Under the guidance of DJ ZanD, Ms Cosmo honed her skills on vinyl before advancing to CDJ’s. Ms Cosmo still has a preference for vinyl and believes there is room for this art to take shape and form a culture of its own in South Africa.

Ms Cosmo has witnessed the vinyl culture first hand, through her travels to destinations such as New York and Miami, where highly esteemed DJs were playing with vinyls. Ms Cosmo has played alongside the likes as DJ Fresh, DJ Euphonik, Black Coffee, DJ Kent, DJ Mzi, DJ Dimplez, The Naked DJ, DJ VigiLante, DJ Naves, DJ SPHEctacula, DJ Franky, Lulo Café, DJ Voodoo, DJ Choice, DJ Switch, DJFanatic, Dope Jocks, DJ Capital, DJ Speedsta, DJ Shimza, Josi Chave, DJ ZanD and Just Mo. Ms Cosmo has also been part of the opening line ups for international artists such as Chris Brown, Kanye West, D’Banj, and 2 Chainz.

Apart from her talents behind the decks, Ms Cosmo has honed her skills as an MC having presented awards at both the Channel O Music Video Awards 2012 and the SA Hip-Hop Awards 2012, making her a viable option to be booked as a DJ, VJ and event MC. Ms Cosmo is also a One Young World ambassador for South Africa.

Winner of “Best Radio Show” at the South African Hip Hop Awards 2013 for her show “The Stir Up” on 5FM
