Everything You Need To Know About The Jazz singer and composer, Nono Nkoane

Nono Nkoane, a jazz singer and composer from kwa-Langa, Cape Town; South Africa. Born to a family with a very rich history in music, she was bound to find herself immersed in this world.

True Call… the debut album from Nono Nkoane is a 15 track Jazz offering packed with hit songs such as Baleka; Ndalila, My journey, Voice from the past, Meditative state and many more.

Nono left Cape Town at the age of 19 to seek further training in music. Nono was given an opportunity by her long time mentor Dizu Plaatjies. His deep rooted African Music was a huge influence on Nono and it played a crucial role in shaping her skill as a vocalist.

 

Nono’s exposure to Jazz music was to be found at tertiary. Nono studied at the Tshwane University of Technology. She studied Jazz and contemporary music. Her studies in this field helped transform her into a composer and singer with a depth that is unmatched.

Nono has found herself on many great stages with many Great performers; from the Robben Island Festival, Standardbank Joy Of Jazz, Stellenbosch Amphitheatre, Baxter theatre, State theatre (Tshwane) to parliarment., Judith Sephuma, Bra Hugh Masekela, Dizu Plaatjies, Ernie Smith, Lungiswa Plaatjies, The late Mirriam Makeba and Jabu Khanyile, and many more Greats. Nono will be performing at the 2015 Standard bank Joy of Jazz festival as part of Jimmy Dludlu and friends.
