Auditions for the upcoming ninth season of the popular reality show ‘Tropika Island Of Treasure’ are well underway and this year, things are a little bit different. After competing in the Maldives last season, contestants will be jetting off to the Caribbean island of Curaçao. That’s not all. For the first time ever, auditions are being held entirely online – making it easier for anyone around the country to enter the popular reality show and compete for their share of fame and fortune. But, what are celebrity contestants Ntando Duma, Kay Sibiya and Simphiwe Ngema looking for in their teammates?
South African actress and TV personality Ntando Duma says that she’s looking for a tenacious person to join her on the beautiful island of Curaçao. “I need someone who is determined and refuses to give up up when handed a challenge.” Ntando is also looking for someone reliable and someone who is able to look at challenges from a different perspective. “My potential team mate must be ready to face the unexpected, and should be someone who can see the ‘big picture’. That way, I know my team mate and I will be in it to win it no matter what the challenges throw at us.”
Meanwhile, actor Kay Sibiya says he’s being strategic in what he’s looking for in his Tropika Island Of Treasure teammate. “My ideal team mate is someone who has a combination of being physically and mentally fit because both of these aspects are needed to win that R1 million prize money.” He adds that “It’s about the long game which is more psyschological than physical so I need someone patient and witty. I also want to have fun so someone with an amazing sense of humour wouldn’t hurt either.”
Finally, actress and singer Simphiwe Ngema says that she’s looking for someone who is physically fit to help her cruise her way to the smoooth R1 million grand prize. “There are a lot of physical challenges on Tropika Island Of Treasure so having someone who is strong on my team will definitely help me get ahead in those challenges,” Simphiwe says. She adds that she is also looking for someone who is a quick thinker while working under pressure. “Mental challenges are very likely in #TIOT9 so I would need someone on my side who thinks quickly and is able to come up with solutions in a relatively short amount of time – and not crack under the pressure.”
People across South Africa dreaming of joining their favourite celebs in the tropical island paradise of Curaçao need to buy a promotional pack of Tropika and follow the instructions on pack. Following this, they need to record a short video (not longer than one minute) showing the #TIOT9 team what they’ve got and describing how they will out smoooth their competitors on Tropika Island of Treasure Curaçao. Submission of audition videos can be done in one of three ways:
1. On Tropika’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), tagging the brand and including the #TIOT9 hashtag.
2. Via www.Tropika.co.za.
3. Via the #TIOT9 audition Whatsapp number: 063 921 8395.

From all auditions submitted, only six contestants will be chosen to compete on #TIOT9 and will join host, Katlego Maboe, and celebrities Simphiwe Ngema, Kay Sibiya, Nadia Japhta, Siphesihle Vazi, Ntando Duma and Bouwer Bosch on the island. Celebs and contestants will be flying in style to Curaçao with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, ensuring the start of their adventure is nothing but smoooth.
