MTV Shuga Down South set to return in February 2019

A partnership between Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), MTV Staying Alive Foundation, Unitaid and the London School of Hygiene and tropical medicine has brought back season 2 of the much loved MTV Shuga Down South.

sapositivenews.com has revealed that the cast of the new season sees the return of some of season 1 cast members such as Thuso Mbedu and Jemima Osunde of MTV Shuga Naija.

The first season aired in 2017 and season 2 is coming on February 12, 2019. “The movement was created out of a passionate and purpose driven vision”, said VIMN Africa’s Communications Director Fatima Beckham. “The 3 year partnership has been created to introduce and evaluate story-lines on HIV innovation including HIV self testing and preventative drugs into the award winning MTV drama series Shuga”, she added.

Alex Okosi, VIMN Africa Managing Director says MTV Shuga has been an incredible powerful movement. “What’s really powerful about Shuga is that it’s not just a drama series but was crafted to be something that would resonate with our young viewers who watch our channels. Actress Thuso Mbedu bags a nod at the International Emmy Awards

Generations: The Legacy actress Thuso Mbedu has bagged herself a nod at the 2018 International Emmy Awards.

Thuso Mbedu is once again nominated for her role as Winnie in the second season of the Mzansi Magic drama, Is’thunzi.

The SAFTA award-winning actress has been nominated in the Best Actress category and will go up against other actresses from Germany, Brazil and the UK.

“Wow, look at God! To be nominated twice is amazing. The first time was great but this second time is sweeter. I am blessed to have worked with such a great team and am humbled to be representing South Africa and the talent that it possesses at the awards ceremony,” she said in a statement released by her management.

SA Stars Featured On Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 List

Forbes Africa has released its fourth edition of the 30 under 30 list and some of the continent’s most accomplished young artists, entrepreneurs and technology stars.

Forbes Africa describes this year’s list as its most comprehensive yet, writing:

“The 2018 FORBES AFRICA Under 30 is our authentic and most definitive list of Africa’s most promising young change-makers. This year is our fourth edition of the list and for the first time, inspired by the growing number of young men and women entrepreneurs, we have expanded it to bring you 30 game-changers, all under the age of 30, in each of the three sectors – business, technology and creative. The publication also stated that they put in months of rigorous research, sifting through over 600 nominations, vetting them for weeks, verifying and investigating them.

Thuso Mbedu Joins Generations The Legacy

Actress Thuso Mbedu made headlines last year when she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her role in the telenovela Is’Thunzi.

Even though she didn’t win, she got an opportunity to rub shoulders with Hollywood stars at the ceremony.

According to Sunday World, the 27-year-old just bagged herself a role on Generations: The Legacy, one of Mzansi’s biggest soapies.

Thuso Mbedu won a SAFTAs for best actress in a TV drama for her sterling portrayal of Winnie in Mzansi Magic’s telenovela Isithembiso.

According to reports found on SowetanLIVE, sources told the publication that Thuso was informed a week ago that she will be joining Generations as one of lead characters.

“This is hush-hush at the moment but she’s definitely joining the show and she’s happy about her latest feat because she’s now on a bigger platform. This means she’s going to become an even bigger star.

“Thuso will be replacing Thulisile Phongolo and Andisiwe Gweba whose characters have been written off the show,” said one source.

Another insider said even though Thuso’s on-screen name has not been finalised yet, the character is “exciting and she’s going to bring a lot of drama to the soapie”.
