Actress Thuso Mbedu scores lead role in Hollywood series

International Emmy-nominated actress Thuso Mbedu has just made history again. The South African actress has officially been cast as Cora, the main character of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel “The Underground Railroad.”

The series tells the story of three slaves who seek freedom from Southern plantations via the Underground Railroad. As reported by eNCA, the series will premiere on Amazon and will consist of 11 episodes written and directed by Barry Jenkins.

Mbedu’s love interest in the series Caesar will be played by Aaron Pierre, while Chase W. Dillon will portray Homer.

Taking to Instagram to share the news with her fans, Thuso wrote: “My thumb and neurons are failing me right now so I’ll just do as most South Africans do when this happens: I GOT THE JOB!!!! It was such an amazing process and experience. Like, true story, just prepping to audition for this role made me grow so much. It’s such a blessing and honour to tell this story… Again, words fail me so I’ll stop there for now (sic).”
