Gospel Singer Pastor Neyi Zimu Passes Away

The nation wakes up to sad news of the passing of “Jehova Retshepile Wena” hit maker Neyi Zimu. Pastor Neyi Zimu was reportedly diagnosed with skin cancer.

According to Channel24, gospel star Pastor Neyi Zimu’s skin conditions started showing changes earlier this year and he would perform with gloves on. The changes continued to show on the face, but the star kept performing even when his condition worsened.

Gospel celebrities and the country continue to tweet their heartfelt condolences messages in tribute to singer Pastor Neyi.

According to the SABC, the popular gospel star died on Wednesday night at Busamed Hospital in Modderfontein, Gauteng, where he was being treated for a rare blood disorder that affected his skin.

A video of the 49-year-old gospel star was shared by singer Nelisiwe Sibiya on social media where he was sharing his last and final motivating words to South Africans before he died.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE on Thursday, multi-award-winning South African gospel singer, Dr Rebecca Malope, said she and those close to Neyi had prayed daily for his healing.

“I was so shocked to hear about his death. We were praying that he was going to make it through. We know that cancer is a very serious thing, but we did not know that it would be so soon. We don’t know what pain he went through and the struggles he went through, but losing someone so young is so heartbreaking” – she said

“Today the gospel community mourns the tragic passing of well renowned Gospel Musician & Pastor, NeyiZimu. Your music uplifted & gave hope to the hearts of many in times of need & your talent & spiritual calling will never be forgotten. Robala ka Kgotso. (sic),” – Department of Arts & Culture tweeted
