Pearl Modiadie who is from Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, grew up in the industry. She’s been in the entertainment industry for decades as a TV presenter, radio DJ, actress, and producer.

Zaziwa, which pulled millions of viewers for SABC 1 has been running for over seven years. It profiled many well-known stars in South Africa like Nasty C, Dr Tumi, Cassper Nyovest, Refilwe Modiselle and Vuyo Dabula just to name a few.

Reports of Pearl’s show Zaziwa being cancelled was shared by TV presenter and entertainment commentator Phil Mphela on Twitter. Pearl retweeted the tweet and expressed her sadness that she did not know her show had been canned.

“It’s heartbreaking to find out on social media,” she tweeted.

The tweet read: “TV: ZAZIWA is CANCELLED. SABC has officially cancelled its popular talk show hosted by Pearl Modiadie. The show performed well ratings wise — peaking at 4.2-million viewers over its run. But it was sabotaged when the channel meddled & kept moving the show’s time slot around (sic).”

This is not the first time something like this happens. In February 2017 the channel pulled Pearl’s show from the schedule and transplanted it to Sunday nights at 20:30.

Later that year SABC1 moved Zaziwa from the schedule entirely to make space for a rerun of Shaka Zulu.
