South African rapper AKA (Kiernan Forbes) is the first African rapper to win a Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice award. The awards took place this past Sunday at the Galen Center in Los Angeles and were hosted by DJ Khaled.
The rapper was nominated at the awards in the Favourite SA Star Category along with fellow South Africans TV personalities Nomzamo Mbatha and Somizi, cricket superstar Kagiso Rabada and South African Springbok rugby captain, Siya Kolisi.
“I also want to dedicate this award to my brother Kwesta and his wife who got married this past weekend. I couldn’t attend because I had to be here in LA. God bless the Vilakazis and cheers to many happy years of more life.” – AKA said in his acceptance speech.
