Her early childhood

She always knew that music was her calling, have loved to sing all her life. Growing up in a musical family, her Granddad being a composer, songwriter and conductor for choral choirs influenced her love for music at an early age.

Life was good for her as a child, she enjoyed putting on shows at home singing along to her favourite artists, but I always had a yearning of being like Brenda Fassie someone who would sing for the love of singing.
We all have life-changing moments and mine came in the form of a tragic train accident where she was travelling with her 3 sister-cousins and grandmother to Johannesburg. At the tender age of 10 she had to listen to her cousins suffer in agony of the train that had de-railed.

Her sister-cousins did not make it and the aftermath of this event (to this day) is like dealing with the aftermath of a Tsunami. 3 children gone and she survived. The emotional guilt that she has carried over the years has been a heavy one. Music went from being a love to being a form of escaping her reality. Life is not easy, the obstacle that we face at times seem virtually impossible to overcome. But in those words, lies the secret to making any dream happen – “It is Possible”.

Qwade Dunn

Qwade grew up in a small town in KwaZulu-Natal, called Eshowe. As a teen, the South-African born singer relocated to New Zealand to study. With a passion and desire to make it in the music industry, he self-funded his first music demo and video, which caught the attention of British manager Johnathan (Jay) Jules. After being scouted by Sony Music, Dunn released his debut single, We Are, produced by British producer James Reynolds, in 2012. It featured as song of the week on New Zealand’s ZM Radio, making Dunn the first African artist to achieve that status in Australasia – quite an achievement for a developing act.

In 2013, Dunn returned to South Africa where he continued to pursue music, albeit in a different way. “It was at this point that Jonathan Jules and I founded Jabba, a music company with a difference. It provided a solution for international music companies seeking to establish a footprint in Africa, one of the world’s fastest growing economies. We not only wanted to bring products into Africa for African music lovers, but also wanted to create a vehicle for exporting African music beyond borders.”

While the business became his primary focus, Dunn continued to release music ad hoc from late 2015 to 2017. “During this time, I did a radio/television tour of east Africa; it just so happened that our company was label partners to an Idols-type show in Zambia. I loved touring east Africa because the people were so warm and the vibe I got was incredible. It made me fall in love with our content all over again.”

Produced by the Tweezy & Una Rams collabotor who goes by the name Kaeb, this single taken from his Surf AM EP which is scheduled to be released on the 15th November 2018 along with a short film, Kwaze Kwamnadi tells a story of high-class females, Margarita wine drinking and afterparties in the northern suburbs of Durban. He paints this picture with an intoxicated grunge texture in his voice.

“The story of high-class females, Margarita wine drinking and afterparty’s in the suburbs is painted with the intoxicated grunge texture in his voice. This is an excellent blend of genres to create a new genre that just forces you to sway your head side to side no matter how much you try to fight the vibration” Xenlaii says.

The song reflects on a youthful midnight experience in the city of Durban which Xenlaii calls the Surf AM experience. Surf AM is a pursuit of happiness, a form of escapism from his bitter reality of losing very important people in his life. It is also the title of his ‘’soon to be released’’ project which will come with a very conceptual short film that was shot in Balito, Durban.
