The search engine giant, Google, is celebrating 15 years of Google Trends and has released the most searched topics in South Africa on its engine over the past 15 years.

Google Trends is a website by Google that analyzes the popularity of top search queries in Google Search across various regions and languages. The website uses graphs to compare the search volume of different queries over time.
According to the findings, Google Trends revealed that, among other things, South Africans mostly engage in topics such as current affairs, sport, looking for job opportunities and government services.

Google now processes over 40,000 search queries every second on average, which translates to over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide.
“‘Top searches’ indicate searches that topped Google’s charts while ‘Most searched’ queries are the most popular terms for the past 15 years, ranked in order by volume of searches,” Google said.
