What has been the highlight of your time on Presenter Search on 3?

My Presenter Search on 3 highlight was being part of the Expresso take-over and interviewing Prince Kaybee. To be quite honest, that challenge made me realise there that I have longevity in this presenting industry.

What has been the biggest lesson this experience has taught you?

The biggest lesson I learned has been that I must truly trust my journey and God’s timing. Hard work and faith goes a long way.

Every week during Presenter Search on 3, Palesa overcame each and every curveball that was thrown her way and it’s her ability to draw audiences in with her personality while thinking on her feet that has made her the perfect addition to SABC 3’s Afternoon Express.

Get to know Palesa better with this short Q&A:

What has been the highlight of your time on Presenter Search on 3?

My highlight on Presenter Search on 3 has been getting guidance and mentorship from judges like Patience Stevens, Jeannie D, and DJ Fresh who have been in the industry for years. The amount of growth I’ve experienced has been immeasurable. Sbusiso Kumalo too, kept me focused with his life coaching style to critiquing my performance.

What has been the biggest lesson this experience has taught you?

My biggest lesson is I have more to offer than I realise. My role as a TV presenter goes beyond interviews and travelogues. I am used as a tool for teaching, and have a responsibility to my audiences.

How would you describe your presenting style?

My presenting style is definitely energetic and expressive. I’m a casual presenter that focuses more on connecting with audiences rather than being perfect. I do enjoy the more refined presenting style too, but I’m most comfortable being myself.

You hail from Durban and now that you will be hosting Afternoon Express, which is based in Cape Town, how will you be managing your time when it comes to seeing your family?

Being a part of such a close-knit family we will have to make the distance work for us. Going down to Durban or inviting them over to see my gorgeous new city of Cape Town will have to be the remedy every two or so months. In the meantime, video calls will also be a saving grace.

The new Expresso presenter gained a massive support system on social media during the season and overcame obstacles to win over the judges in what has been described as the show’s most impressive season to date.

Get to know Thabiso better with this short Q&A:

What has been the highlight of your time on Presenter Search on 3?

The highlight of my time with Presenter Search on 3 has to be the two takeovers we did of the Expresso morning show and Top Billing. Those moments were so surreal because in those times, I actually lived out a dream.

What has been the biggest lesson this experience has taught you?

The single biggest lesson this experience has taught me is to take a chance on myself. Many people often have dreams and interests they would like to pursue but hold themselves back. Each week, I saw myself take a chance. I wasn’t always in a comfortable space but I got in there and gave it the best I could.

After a challenging Expresso takeover, the contestants were given a taste of the good life with their very own segment on SABC 3’s flagship lifestyle magazine show Top Billing as they got a chance to showcase fine dining, celebrity interviews and cutting-edge design in the way Top Billing is famous for.

Unfortunately, Shannon’s road on Presenter Search on 3 came to a halt in what was easily one of the most dramatic episodes of the season so far. Jeannie D was disappointed that Shannon is still fluffing his lines up at this stage in the competition. “You have got to get those lines very quickly. What happens is if you are put into a situation when you interviewing Madonna, you only have one take with Madonna, you don’t have a chance to do another link or to ask her a question again – and that’s the kind of level you have to be at with Top Billing.” Patience added that Shannon “had a disastrous beginning” to his insert. “We have very limited time on shoots. A presenter has to be so sharp and get the pronunciation of people’s names right the first time and not the fourth or fifth time.”

It works, I just don’t know if it does you any favours when you’re presenting a show. It does look good, I don’t know if it works for TV,” DJ Fresh told Peelo moments before her elimination. Meanwhile, Patience Stevens tells Peelo that “You came into this competition with an advantage that you have presented before, and when we look at people we look at their potential for growth and you should be so much more ahead of the other people and you’re not.”

The Top 9 took over the Expresso morning show last Friday and while some slotted into the fast-paced thrills of live TV effortlessly, others realised that live TV is a beast not every presenter can tackle.

Ultimately, Palesa Tembe, Ryle De Morny and Laurina Machite were announced as the worst-performing contestants of the episode and got some tough love from our esteemed panel of judges Jeannie D, DJ Fresh, Sbusiso Kumalo and Patience Stevens.

Palesa’s hesitation before her live links, due to missing her cues, caused a few clumsy moments on air which the judges believed spoiled her presentation. Ryle appeared to be overshadowed during his gym segment which made for a few awkward interactions with his guest. This and his lack of confidence in a space he is passionate about made for an underwhelming segment. However, it was Laurina’s lack of personal interaction and on-air fumble when the director told her to finish off an interview, which caused her to lose focus and come to an abrupt stop that ultimately cost her a spot in the competition.
